The Scottish Society of Paranormal Investigation and Analysis

Paranormal Investigation

"Without the Jiggery-Pokery"

Welcome to the Scottish Society of Paranormal Investigation and Analysis (SSPIA) website. Since 2006, the SSPIA has been researching and investigating all aspects of paranormal phenomenon in our home base, Edinburgh - Scotland's capital. Edinburgh is reputed to be one of Europe's most haunted cities, though the Scottish Society of Paranormal Investigation and Analysis does not restrict itself to it - our work takes us all over Scotland, and beyond.

Paranormal Investigation Techniques

The techniques of paranormal investigation employed by the SSPIA are purely scientific: we do not use any method that does not have results which are both recordable and verifiable. This means we do not believe that psychics and mediums are a viable form of paranormal investigation, therefore do not have any in our group. Instead, we use a wealth of in-depth experiments, many of which have been developed by ourselves, as well as some of the traditional equipment often seen in today's paranormal investigation. We pride ourselves on our creative trigger objects and resourcefulness in searching for the truth behind all aspects of 'the unexplained'.

The evidence we collect is entirely empirical, and we dismiss anything that we cannot certify was completely untampered with by natural causes.

As sceptics, the Scottish Society of Paranormal Investigation and Analysis is determined to exhaust all possible natural explanations for any strange occurrences before submitting that an event could be classified 'paranormal', and even then most of the team would be reluctant to do so.

What the SSPIA is Like

That said, the team has encountered some pretty weird things! Take our Halloween investigation at Edinburgh Dungeon, where some things admittedly went bump in the night. You can hear us scream in the Dungeons video - though that's the only time we've done so. Well, when it's not been on purpose as part of one of our innovative experiments.

If you want to read more about paranormal investigation, check out some of our articles. They should provide a good introduction to your area of interest, whether it's Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) or pareidolia - the fascinating human necessity to create patterns out of nothing.

The Scottish Society of Paranormal Investigation and Analysis is always looking for new locations to investigate within Scotland and outside it. If you think your property is haunted or you know of one that might be, get in touch and let us know. We'd love to hear from you - which is also why you should sign up to our forum to chat with us.

All seriousness aside, the SSPIA is a paranormal investigation group with a bit of flair and fun. We take our work seriously, but we're also sure to enjoy ourselves while we do it. If you don't believe us, just look at our ever-changing meet the team page.
